I am poor at words. Simply speaking, I consider him the greatest novelist describing human emotions and experiences.
A briefing of the story is that a surgeon who likes to sleep around and never wants to settle down met a girl accidentally and fall in love with her. My understanding is that the the surgeon always wanted the "light" way of life but the girl brought him "heavy" meaning. The accidental girl changed his life completely and he finally ruined his career and life for that girl and died with that girl. They are two very different people and to the surgeon it was a big struggle to commit and love. But everything happened just like random events and the surgeon just fail to control his own life. The whole story is very very simple and not so story. The sparkling part of the novel is the 人物心理描写。 Never saw such good and deep 描写，in any other novels.
