I only followed its IPO on Dec. 14, 2005 for one day after its price jumped 40%. I could not catch this "rabbit," so let it go. Of course since then the price has been almost doubled. Today's price was over $38.... Suntech has the right products in the right time. Anything related to energy is up dramatically. People around the world are looking for other alternatives to suppliment, not to replace, the black gold. Nuclear is quite mature now; solar is growing fast; wind is in its infancy; coal will come back, even it is dirty and non-EPA friendly. Many investors love to play this theme or concept stock, even its current earning is insignificent. As a risk-averse investor myself, I will not recommend this stock at this price level. Look at the Baidu stock (bidu); it came down from $153 to what? $51 for today. When it was $153 not a few investors were convinced it would be a $400 per share stock!
Solar energy is a hot topic/trend right now in the energy industry. The evidence and facts I have collected are from many other IPOs in this field. Q-Cells from Germany (the largest solar mft. in Europe) had an IPO in last Oct.; Conergy had an IPO; Ersol had one too; then Sunpower, a subsidiary of the semi co. Cypress Semi, had one IPO too. Their prices were all soaring. However, most of those companies only make cells, not modules. My company uses solar cells as the source of energy for small birds tracking so I know a few things on solar cells. The major competitions those relatively small solar cell companies will face are from the industry giants, such as Sharp, Kyocera, BPSolar, etc.
My conclusion: Await second change after its price goes South.  It may never happen. So What?
