Until recently did I know that Marine in Monterey is in fact a Korean neighbodhood since WWII. Take west of Mississipi for example, many Norwegian settlers and their descendents cluster around MN. Nordic crowds can also be found in WA particularly in the Ballard area. Seattle is a magnet for first gen Russian immigrants. The entire Columbia river region (WA, OR) is also the home to most German immigrants who were originally from Schwarzwald of Germany, perhaps the landscape in the Pacific Northwest reminds them of home.
The Japanese in the Bay Area were rounded up in WII and sent to CO, so after the war, many of them stayed. The returning Japanese chose to stay inland Norcal as farmers. Santa Clara is a home to many recently arrived Korean immigrants who opened up so many great Korean eateries and food markets. North Beach SF has always been a distinctively touristy Italian neighborhood. We also have a Polish community in Union City. And of course we all know that Sunnyvale is now an Indianville.
American Greek, Italian and Irish are the most bonding races among themselves compared to other European immigrants. Today, there are far more Irish descendents in America than the Ireland population. Almost every multi-gen American you meet will claim to have 1/2^x Irish blood.
Anyway, such ethnic neighborhoods are still alive and kicking today and that's what makes this country so dynamic and interesting.
