Came to Shanghai late in the evening, found the website, contacted Thomas immediately via MSN, arranged a trip early next morning. Seeing the city waking up into daily rush during the drive throughout old streets and alleyways is a great and rather authentic experience of a Shanghai-soon-to-disappear, full of sights, smells and sounds of a China that you do not usually see. Stopping by whenever you want, changing plans on the go, plus an insightful commentary from a guy who knows and loves the city make it well worth the 4 hours (usual length of the tour). The flexibility and starting up early meant I was even on time for a 10am meeting.

2009年1月15日 我在上海住了有7年了,坦白的说要不是有这个机会我自己是不会来的。我初到这里的时候感觉还可以,还对这里抱着怀疑态度。当时的想法真是可笑。我对这里的第一印象显然是判断失误。首先这里很有意思,我从没坐过边车,所以那感觉简直太爽了。那声音和速度还有景观……你本是在边车里但给你的感觉就像在散步,我也得以见识我尚未来得及去探寻的上海的各个角落。叫他车夫也好向导也罢向我讲述着上海的故事,他知道怎样把这些故事糅合在风趣的讨论中,真长见识!唯一有点挑战的就是那寒冷的空气,尽管我穿得很多了他们还给我加了衣服,或许春天和秋天会好些吧。
所以呢,如果你感兴趣就马上行动吧。现在我感觉自己就像个小孩,对边车欲罢不能了。

I've been living in Shanghai for about 7 years and frankly I would not have gone myself for that tour if it wasn't offered to me. My first thought when I got the "present" was "okkkayyy" and was more than dubious about it. How wrong was I! I clearly misjudged it on my first impression. First it's fun! I never had the chance to be in or ride a sidecar so that was the occasion and it's quite an experience! Got the noise, the speed, and the glam ! Hey hey ! Then the perspective... You're in a vehicle but at the same time feeling outside like walking and I got to see many corners of Shanghai that I never had the chance to explore. The driver/guide/entertainer/just name it, has a few tales about the city and knows how to wrap it all in a pleasant discussion ...refreshing! the only thing that was a bit challenging was the cold weather although I was equipped and they gave me extra protections. Maybe better in spring or autumn
So ... ? if you're tickling about it ...just don't wait somebody offer this to you (or give them some hints  ) Now, I feel a bit like a kid who got his ride and wants more!
