Engineers interested in problem solving, developing testing tools, and hardware and software interoperability get to design automated tests to find bugs in our products or design plans to ensure that the products operate efficiently with all hardware and software systems. They design and build test infrastructure, including automation framework and tools, coverage analyzers, and custom test tools.
Job Description Responsibilities:
Manage & lead the QE efforts for VMware's foundational personal desktop products
- This involves directly managing the Personal Desktop (Fusion) QE team to drive product planning, decisions and deliverables
- This involves working with Dev, PM and GSS to determine new features and enhancements
- Participate in setting project planning timelines
- Work with Dev to coordinate the smooth integration of features into the product and to discuss 'hot issues'
- Build strong working relationships with development and other key internal teams
- Standardize practices and procedures based on VMware’s software development methodology
- Manage staffing and hiring
- Own QE resource management for personnel & hardware, project scoping, tracking,
delivery, and budgeting
- On time delivery to project deadlines, project tracking, status reports, and test plans and
specifications
- Work your team at a conceptual and code level to create practical, cost effective solutions for
product QE
- Drive implementation of test automation
- Ensure test environment reflects the operating environment of our customers
- Assign and track problems through the internal defect tracking system
- Continually measure progress against timelines and established measures, taking timely action
when needed
Leadership functions:
- Achieve high productivity by delegating responsibility, giving both context and reassurance to
team members to ensure their sense of autonomy
- Encourage team members’ creative input and sense of ownership by emphasizing their
importance in the decision making process and soliciting their input at many stages
- Create a strong sense of team direction
- Integrate software engineering and quality assurance disciplines
- Mentor and guide team members
Requirements:
- 3+ years in managing a high-performing engineering team
- 7+ years of industrial experience with a significant portion of the experience in QE and QE management
- Must be experienced in software development and QE methodology and software maintenance practices
- Excellent teamwork and leadership skills
- Strong organizational, people management, project management and customer interaction skills
- Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple outstanding tasks
- Strong communication. Fluent in English and Chinese
- Strong domain knowledge in operating systems and OS level testing experience
- Programming experience & knowledge of automation frameworks
- Experience on Mac OS software testing and automation is a plus
- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent
